But, in times of the COVID-19 pandemic and with the Queen and her husband Prince Philip in self-isolation at Windsor castle, nothing will be the same this year. Spoiler: the royals won't be waving from the balcony of Buckingham palace this year.

Normally, the royal family travel in horse-drawn carriage from Buckingham Palace, along The Mall to Horse Guards Parade, Whitehall and then back again. They then gather on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, with the Queen in front, and they greet the cheering crowds and watch the Royal Air Force flypast. None of that is happening in 2020.

However, there will be a small event for Queen Elizabeth held at Windsor Castle. In the Quadrangle of the castle, there will be a military ceremony executed by the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards and it will feature music from a Band of the Household Division. With everything taking place in the confines of the castle, the Queen has just one request for the public.

Her Majesty does NOT want any of the members of the public to travel to Windsor town centre or gather in the vicinity of the castle in the hope of seeing any of the ceremony. There will be no viewing positions for the public, in accordance with the current government guidelines.
