The New Year has begun with sad news for the British Royal Family: Lady Mary Colman, a cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, died on Jan. 2, 2021, at the age of 88 on her estate in Norfolk, the Daily Mail reports.

The Queen and Lady Mary are said to have been close and often spent time together at the Sandringham and Balmoral estates.

Queen Elizabeth's cousin Lady Mary Colman has died

Lady Mary Colman was a daughter of Michael Bowes-Lyon, the brother of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. She lived with her husband Sir Timothy Colman, 91, at Bixley Manor in Norfolk until her death.

The couple had five children, 10 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. Lady Mary spent her life working on charity. It is not yet known what caused her death. According to the Daily Mail, Lady Mary's family said that she "was loved by all who met her."

The loss continues a tragic stretch for the Royal Family. Just recently, both Queen Elizabeth and the Cambridge family lost beloved pet dogs. Then, in December, Lady Celia Vestey, the godmother of Prince Harry, passed away suddenly. Our thoughts are with the Colman and Bowes-Lyon families and the Royals at this time.
