According to a report by The Sunday Times, the Queen will not be returning to Buckingham Palace this year...! At the moment, she is still residing on the Balmoral estate in Scotland with her husband Prince Philip and would - as she does every year - return to London after her vacation up north. But that is not happening in 2020.

The Queen won't return to Buckingham Palace this year

Instead of returning to Buckingham Palace this year, Her Majesty will go back to Windsor Castle, where she and Prince Philip were staying ever since the start of the pandemic. Naturally, this step will be taken in order to keep Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip from contracting COVID-19.

Going back to that close-knit "Windsor Bubble", inside which she and the Duke of Edinburgh spent the majority of the lockdown is probably much smarter than returning to London, where there would be just so much more staff to interact with.

A royal source has told The Sunday Times that the Queen intends to "commute" to London from Windsor to carry out royal engagements in the future when it is safer to do so. According to the report, this will mark the longest absence from Buckingham Palace the Queen has had during her 68-year reign. She has actually not carried out a royal engagement in person ever since the start of the pandemic.

"There is a desire to get Buckingham Palace up and running again as a working palace, but only if all the relevant advice suggests that it is appropriate to do so," another source reportedly said. There are rumors that plans are already being made for Her Majesty to attend commemorations at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday in November.

Maybe that event will mark her big return to a more "normal" royal life? Only time will tell...Until then, Queen Elizabeth will not be returning to Buckingham Palace instead she will go back to Windsor Castle with Prince Philip and her trusted staff.
