The day before their wedding, Prince Charles made a comment that "devastated" Princess Diana, according to one of her friends. She says the heir to the throne told his future wife that he did not love her just hours before they were married. In fact, the "People's Princess" considered not attending her own wedding after listening to Charles's comments.

The new season of The Crown will soon cover the scandalous revelations of Prince Charles and Princess Diana's relationship. But before we get there, a friend of Lady Diana dropped a new bombshell about them in documentary The Diana Interview: Revenge of a Princess, which has been airing this week.

The friend says Prince Charles made a "devastating" comment that almost caused his fiancée not to attend their famous royal wedding.

Prince Charles told Diana he didn't love her the day before their wedding

Prince Charles apparently didn't want to arrive at the altar with any secrets, though that involved making a "devastating" revelation to his soon-to-be wife, Princess Diana, the day before their wedding.

"One of the most shocking things that Diana told me was that the night before the wedding Charles told her that he didn't love her," Penny Thornton, friend and personal astrologer of the princess, said in the ITV documentary. "I think Charles didn't want to go into the wedding on a false premise. He wanted to square it with her and it was devastating for Diana."

Thornton also said Charles's comments prompted Lady Di to consider not attending the royal wedding and leaving the heir to the throne at the altar. "She didn't want to go through with the wedding at that point, she thought about not attending the wedding."

Princess Diana's BBC interview revisited in 2020

Thornton's comments are just one of the many scandalous revelations featured in the ITV documentary, which also claims that the BBC coerced the princess into the explosive interview with reporter Martin Bashir.

In the 1995 interview, Diana spoke about her separation from Prince Charles and mentioned that they both had extramarital affairs while they were together — she with officer James Hewitt and he with his ex-girlfriend and later-wife Camilla.

According to new research, the interview came after Bashir tampered with bank receipts to force Diana to appear in front of the cameras. The BBC has since launched an investigation into the case.
