The 2020 BAFTA TV Awards went virtual on July 31! The ceremony, originally scheduled for May 17, was filmed in a closed and socially-distanced studio. Award recipients, meanwhile, accepted their prizes via prerecorded speeches or through Zoom calls.

2020 BAFTA TV Awards

Dating back to 1997, BAFTA has divided its film and TV awards shows into two separate nights. At the 2020 ceremony, hosted by Richard Ayaode, Idris Elba received the BAFTA Special Award for his TV work as well as his championing of industry diversity.

Series with worldwide followings—including The CrownChernobyl, FleabagKilling Eve, and The End of the F***ing World—and their stars were up for awards. Did Jodie Comer come away as winner of the BAFTA for Leading Actress? For 2020, The End of the F***ing World and Chernobyl were the big winners at the BAFTA TV Awards, taking home the Drama Series and Miniseries awards, respectively. Royal favourite The Crown came up empty in three categories, while Elisabeth Is Missing's Glenda Jackson took Leading Actress and, again, Chernobyl's Jared Harris took Leading Actor.
