The Irishman tells the real-life story of Frank Sheeran, a truck driver who becomes involved as a hitman for a crime family. Robert De Niro stars as "Sheeran," while Joe Pesci plays mob boss "Russell Bufalino." Veteran director Martin Scorsese directed the 209-minute epic film, which was distributed by Netflix in 2019.

The Irishman also covers how Sheeran's life crossed paths with Jimmy Hoffa, who is portrayed by Al Pacino in the film.

The film has received many nominations at awards shows including the BAFTAs and Golden Globes. But so far it's only major win was for Best Acting Ensemble at the Critics' Choice Awards

The Irishman heads into the 2020 Oscars with an impressive 10 nominations, as it looks to compete in categories including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor.
