William Shatner, Kate Mulgrew, George Takei and many fans celebrated #StarTrekDay on social media on Sunday September 8th, 2019. It was exactly 53 years ago that the first episode of Star Trek: The Original Series debuted, which followed the crew of the Enterprise for an ordinary inspection on planet M-113.

William Shatner shares Star Trek picture

William Shatner shared a tweet that read, "Happy Anniversary Star Trek (1966-2019)" along with a picture of him as "James T. Kirk" with the rest of the Enterprise gang. He also revealed that the very first episode that was aired, was in fact not the first to be filmed. The first episode to be filmed aired as the "third or 4th episode."

Fans and Stars Celebrate #StarTrekDay

George Takai, Kate Mulgrew and Shohreh Aghdashloo also posted on their Twitter accounts about the special day. Executive producer of the Star Trek franchise since 2009, Alex Kurtzman, shared a video message honouring the franchise and its fans as well. He said, "The world we live in has changed, but Star Trek remains a very steady starship in the media landscape, forever championing its core tenants of love, family, friendship, courage, sacrifice, and above all — grand, limitless optimism."
