The original 1977 Broadway musical Annie was inspired and adapted by the American daily comic strip ‘Little Orphan Annie’ by Harold Allen which was most popular during the 1930s. The music was created by Charles Strouse with lyrics by Martin Charnin and the book written by Thomas Meehan. The show was an instant success giving the likes of Andrea McArdle and Sarah Jessica Parker a shot of fame.
