Best Halloween Costumes 2020

Take Halloween 2020 for a spin and dress up as some of the year's biggest pop culture figures. In this gallery, we'll walk you through the year's best costumes from hit TV to Netflix and Disney movies and even the Royal Family.

Some you can even re-create with items you have at home. Enjoy the gallery!

"Pennywise"

We start with a new favourite: "Pennywise" the clown, the terrifying star of recent horror films It and It Chapter Two, based on the novel by Stephen King.

Why is he here? Because, since the first big-screen appearance of "Pennywise," the horrible creature hasn't stopped appearing in our nightmares. To recreate it, you'll need only a clown costume from the plague era, white make-up (a lot), and a red wig that would fit even the most disheveled of the "Weasleys" from Harry Potter.

"Harley Quinn" and the "Birds of Prey"

Next, it's one of few movie characters who actually made it to the big screen in 2020: "Harley Quinn," who debuted her own movie, Birds of Prey, in February.

To replicate her look, you'll need a couple of hair dye cans, the craziest clothes in your closet, and a bit of white base — then you're set with the perfect look to rob Gotham of its most valuable loot.

If you're looking for something simpler, you can dress as any of the "Birds of Prey," the film's group of vigilantes who we hope to see in future movies. They'll allow you to relive your emo days and even wield a baseball bat.

"Johnny Lawrence" and the "Cobra Kai"

In the '80s, many were costumed in the standard white suit that "Daniel LaRusso" wore in The Karate Kid.

However, the tides have have turned and we must now follow the style of "Johnny Lawrence," the taekwondoin who returned for revenge in the hit Netflix series Cobra Kai.

If you have a black dobok and a headband, you already have 90% of this costume ready to go — the other 10% is your attitude.

The 'Money Heist' thieves

Salvador Dalí mask, red overalls, and black boots. You need nothing more to become another of the skilled thieves that star in the breakout Spanish Netflix series Money Heist (La casa de papel).

What name would you give yourself? Remember, your codename has to be a city.

"Mulan"

We've already covered antiheroines (Birds of Prey), so why not recommend a pure heroine?

This year, Yifei Liu became the new Mulan in the live-action film on Disney+.  Wouldn't you look amazing dressed as the Chinese warrior, ready to take on a deadly threat and defend the honour of your family?

We think so.

"Joker"

It seems like years ago, but no, it was February 2020 when Joaquin Phoenix won the Oscar for Best Actor for his brilliant performance as "Joker" in the film Joker.

How about replicating his style and walking down your home staircase with all the attitude? A red suit, yellow vest, and green shirt will make the difference and put a (demented) smile on everyone's face.

"Nurse Ratched"

While we're on the topic of evil, who better than "Nurse Ratched" from the Netflix series of the same name.

On the show, Sarah Paulson plays the heartless and aggressive nurse—seen previously in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest—who becomes a living nightmare for all in her care at Salem State Hospital.

Keep your mask on while looking for a short green dress or coat. Plus, the shoes have to be white, of course.

Shakira and Jennifer Lopez

It's worth remembering that it was not all bad news in 2020 (though you need to look back to the early months of the year). For example, we had the Super Bowl Halftime Show starring Shakira and Jennifer Lopez.

Coordinate with a friend from a distance, wear your best and get ready to shine like never before with any outfit inspired by the great Latin-music show.

"Will" from 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air'

If nostalgia is your thing, we recommend you raid your dad's closet and dress up as "Will," the star of '90s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Remember to use the loudest combinations you can find. Green with purple? Perfect!

"Jason," "Michael Myers," "Freddy Krueger," the murderer of "Scream," ghosts, and even "Annabelle" herself are among the favourite costumes we see parading the streets on Halloween year after year. However, the celebrations will be different in 2020, which gives the opportunity to dress up as the best characters in this year's pop culture.

The Best Halloween Costumes to Wear in 2020

We admit it, we've all dressed up as a vampire, werewolf, Frankenstein's monster, or a mummy. Other popular additions include "Reagan" from The Exorcist, "Michael Myers" from Halloween and the "Annabelle" doll from The Conjuring. Everyone has fallen for those Halloween trends.

But this year, with a celebration of terror at home, we have the opportunity to give new costumes a spin and wear something that we have all seen in quarantine.

Here we present some of the best costumes to wear for Halloween according to the pop culture world of 2020. Enjoy!
