Not too much aside from the release date is known yet about the sequel to the 1988 comedy hit, which was directed by John Landis. Paramount Pictures has set the movie for an August 7, 2020 release with Eddie Murphy expected to return as the star. The movie has actually been in the works for several years and will be directed by Craig Brewer who has previously helmed Hustle & Flow.

Eddie Murphy expected to star as Prince "Akeem" again

In the original movie, Murphy played "Akeem", the Prince and heir to the throne of the fictitious African state of Zamunda, who travels to New York City with his friend "Semmi" (Arsenio Hall) to flee from a marriage that his father (James Earl Jones) has arranged for him. The movie made almost $300 million worldwide back in the late 80's.
