Disney+ is set to release the continuation to the saga with The Mighty Ducks: Game Changer, where Emilio would reprise his iconic role as coach "Gordon Bombay" who led his hockey team to victory despite the impossible odds stacked against them. In the new series, "Bombay" is now the owner of an old ice rink who reluctantly helps out a group of kids trying to form their own hockey team again.

However, last week it was reported that Estevez would be leaving the show altogether, and the reasons at first seemed to have to do with his stance on coronavirus vaccinations. But sources close to Estevez confirm he is leaving because of creative differences instead.

The actor contracted covid-19 in the springtime, and is sympathetic to public health efforts. In a statement to Deadline, Estevez assured fans that he is not anti-vaccines, but "anti bully," saying that what took place was “nothing more than a good old fashioned contract dispute” as well as “a myriad of creative differences", and this was his main reason behind his leaving the show.

This comes after weeks of speculation surrounding the actor and vaccinations. "I am not anti-vaxx. Full stop. I take this pandemic very seriously, and I am often teased about my continued following of the safety protocols and my abundance of caution."

Estevez went on to say he is "disappointed" as fans would be that he won't be back as "Gordon". It remains to be seen if this will negatively affect his career, but one thing is for certain: Mighty Ducks fans will always have a soft spot for Emilio Estevez!
