Halsey will be making her acting debut in the new drama The Player's Table! As Deadline reports, the singer is set to co-star with Euphoria's Sydney Sweeney on the show, which is a small screen adaptation of a bestselling young adult thriller.

Halsey to play "Rachel Calloway" in The Player's Table

The Player's Table is based on Jessica Goodman’s debut novel They Wish They Were Us. "Set at an exclusive Long Island prep school, high school senior Jill Newman (Sweeney) works to uncover the truth about her best friend’s death three years ago and the role she and her fellow "players" — members of the secret society that rules the school— may have had in it," Deadline shares of the show's plot.

Halsey will be playing the role of "Rachel Calloway," who is instrumental in helping "Jill" find out what happened to her friend "Shaila". "Once a legendary member of "The Players" who graduated three years ago, Rachel left the group and dissociated from her wealthy Long Island roots when her younger brother, Graham, was convicted for Shaila’s murder," Deadline's synopsis of the character reads.

"She is brought back to Long Island by her conviction that Graham is not responsible for this crime. Together, Rachel and Jill join forces to embark on a quest for the truth of what really happened that night, with the hope to exonerate her brother before he turns 18."

Halsey and Sweeney have worked together on music video

Halsey first met Sweeney when the Euphoria actress collaborated with her on the music video for her hit song "Graveyard", and the two became close! Sweeney hoped to have the chance to work with Halsey again, which was why she reached out to her about co-starring in The Player's Table, which will be produced by her new production company Fifty-Fifty Films.

The Player's Table will be written and directed by Annabelle Attanasio, who previously worked on the 2019 drama Mickey and the Bear. The project is also set to be produced by Jean-Marc Vallée & Nathan Ross’ Crazyrose and Endeavor Content. And as Deadline mentions, Halsey will be a producer on the show as well!

Halsey's new show will be her first major acting gig

Halsey has briefly appeared onscreen before, guest-starring in the television show Roadies in 2016. She also provided the voice of "Wonder Woman" in the 2018 animated movie Teen Titans Go! To The Movies, and appeared as herself in the musical drama A Star is Born later the same year. She also hosted Saturday Night Live in 2019 and appeared in several sketches.

However, her new gig co-starring in The Player's Table is Halsey's first major acting role! It marks the latest new creative endeavour for the singer, who also announced that she's releasing her first collection of poetry, titled I Would Leave Me If I Could. We're excited to see what comes of this exciting second collaboration between Halsey and Sweeney, and learn more about their characters in the show!
