The first Harry Potter film The Philosopher's Stone celebrated its 20th anniversary this year. No matter how popular the movies are, many fans on Twitter have long asked to see the director's cuts too — i.e., the edited version that is the director's true vision.

Harry Potter: Is there a new movie coming soon?

This wish seems to be shared by Chris Columbus, the director of the first two Harry Potter films. When The Wrap told him that fans would like to see his director's cuts, Columbus replied: "I would too."

He also said: "We have to put 'Peeves' back in the movie, who was cut from the movie!" The character is the poltergeist at Hogwarts and was played in the original film by the now late Rik Mayall. He didn't make it into the film's final cut.

Chris Columbus's unreleased version of the first Harry Potter film runs almost three hours long. The 172-minute film was even shown to audiences in Chicago. The kids present were enthusiastic but the parents found it too long, Columbus recalled.

As a result, around 30 minutes of film was cut from the original version before the shortened film was then released in cinemas.

Even if Warner Bros., the producer of the film, is not currently planning to release the director's cut of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the filmmaker's statement and the continued noise from fans may have set a few stones in motion.
