House of the Dragon: HBO announces release date in 2022

In a short video posted on its social networks, the streaming platform HBO Max announced the premiere of House of the Dragon, a spin-off of Game of Thrones, in 2022. The video shows a brief title graphic for the new series, billed as Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon.

The show, which will begin filming its 10 episodes early next year, will tell the story of the king "Viserys Targaryen" (Paddy Considine), heir chosen by the Knights of Westeros to succeed the old king "Jaehaerys Targaryen," in the Great Council of Harrenhal.

Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, and Emma D'Arcy will also appear in the series that will be produced by Miguel Sapochnik—who will also direct the pilot—and Ryan Condel.
