There is drama in the Supernatural world.

This week, news broke of a developing new spin-off to the popular series which aired on The CW from 2005 to 2020. Star Jensen Ackles is behind the new prequel, but the announcement apparently came as news to his Supernatural co-star Jared Padalecki.

Here's a breakdown of the dispute. On Thursday, Padalecki first responded to Ackles's tweet announcing the new spin-off, writing:

"Dude. Happy for you. Wish I heard about this some way other than Twitter. I'm excited to watch, but bummed that Sam Winchester had no involvement whatsoever."

Supernatural fans were unsure if it was a joke, but Padalecki responded: "No. It's not. This is the first I've heard about it. I'm gutted."

Then, today, Padalecki broke several hours of silence with this concerning tweet: "Hey world. Thank you for the love. Please PLEASE don't send any hate or threats.

"I care deeply about everybody involved and would be in true misery if any of them were harmed or threatened," he added. A few hours then passed before both Padalecki and Ackles addressed things further.

The latest exchange came on Friday morning, with Padalecki first tweeting: "[Jensen] and I had a great talk, as we do often, and things are good. The show is early in the process with miles to go.

"We've travelled a lot of roads together, and sometimes those damn roads have bumps. Bumps don't stop us. Once brothers, always brothers."

Ackles then broke his silence and responded: "Love you [Jared]… Miss these talks. I forgot how much face time we always used to get. And I miss that too. I know you're busy…as am I, but you're still my brother. I miss you, pal."

And that's where things stand as of now. Some fans still believe the longtime co-stars could be pulling a stunt to get attention for the new show, but the final exchange between the two has convinced many otherwise.

In any case, the incident isn't looking good for Ackles and Padalecki, who had just starred together on Supernatural for 15 years. It's a bad look if it's a serious dispute, and it's now just as bad a look if it's a joke following the uproar and severity of fan responses.

Ackles's prequel with The CW would be called The Winchesters and follow the parents of brothers "Dean" and "Sam" from Supernatural. Ackles would also return to narrate in his original role.
