Julianne Moore is taking on the role of a feminist icon in her upcoming project! As Entertainment Weekly reports, the trailer for Moore's new movie The Glorias has made its debut, giving us a first look at her portrayal of Gloria Steinem.

Moore one of several actresses playing Steinem in biopic

Moore is one of the movie's stars, but she's only featured in a portion of the movie! That's because 59-year-old Moore is sharing the role of Gloria Steinem with 31-year-old actress Alicia Vikander, as the two play the celebrated feminist at different points in time. The film will begin during Steinem's childhood, with young actresses Lulu Wilson and Ryan Keira Armstrong in the role to start off.

Several big name actresses will be featured as well to fill the roles of women who aided Steinem in her activism! Janelle Monáe, Lorraine Toussaint, Bette Midler, Monica Sanchez, and Kimberly Guerrero are all involved, playing Dorothy Pitman Hughes, Flo Kennedy, Bella Abzug, Dolores Huerta, and Wila Mankiller— just to name a few.

The Glorias to follow Steinem through decades of her life

The Glorias director Julie Taymor talked to Entertainment Weekly back in January during the Sundance Film Festival about why she decided to make the film.  "I’ve been directing a long time, and I’ve gone through a lot of stuff," she explained. "And for a long time, I kept my blinders on and said there’s no such thing as misogyny. Until I got it really bad on a show. Gloria came to my side and she said ‘It’s OK. I get it. Been there. Done that.'"

As Entertainment Weekly mentions, The Glorias will follow Steinem's "rise through her time in India as a young woman and the founding of Ms. magazine in New York City all the way through her work with the women's rights movement in the 1960s and at the 1977 National Women's Conference."

The Glorias will have a North American release on Amazon Prime Video on September 30. It will also become available for digital download at the same time. In the meantime, you can check out the first teaser trailer for the movie here!
