Kristen Stewart has shared more details about the upcoming Princess Diana biopic, Spencer! The actress— who was recently cast as the iconic royal— talked to Entertainment Tonight about why the new film centered on some of the late Princess of Wales' hardest days hasn't been the easiest undertaking.

Stewart says that Spencer is "a really meditative project"

Stewart explained how she feels that Spencer takes a different approach to Princess Diana's life than other media portrayals of the royal. "It's a really meditative project," she told Entertainment Tonight of the upcoming movie. "There are so many perspectives of her and of her story... it's just not a black and white thing and it's a very slippery, really emotionally-packed story for a lot of people."

"This is a really kind of poetic, really internalized imagining of maybe the heaviest three days’ time before she does something as gnarly as leaving the royal family," she continued. "I'm just sort of reading everything that I can and then forgetting it, because it's kind of a really internalized story." As Entertainment Tonight mentions, that time period is when Princess Diana spent the Christmas holidays at Sandringham Estate while her marriage to Prince Charles is on the rocks.

Stewart admits it's hard not feeling "protective of" Princess Diana

Stewart also talked about Spencer during a late night talk show appearance earlier this week! While she admits that she "didn’t know what was going on" at the time the royal was tragically killed, she explained that she finds it difficult "to not feel protective of" Princess Diana.

"My movie takes place over three days, and it’s this really poetic internal imagining of what that might have felt like rather than giving new information," Stewart said on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday. "We kind of don’t have a mark to hit, we just all so love her."

Stewart also opened up about how she's been preparing to play the Princess of Wales, sharing that she's already been working on Diana's iconic accent. And while it's not yet known when Spencer will be released, Stewart can currently be seen starring in the new holiday rom-com Happiest Season, which was released on Hulu on Wednesday!
