Lupin debuted on Netflix earlier this month, and it's on track to be one of the streaming service's biggest shows— despite the fact it's in French! As Deadline shares, it's currently projected that Lupin will be watched by 70 million households within the first four weeks of its release, which would catapult its viewership numbers above those of several popular English series!

Lupin to top Bridgerton and The Queen's Gambit

Lupin was released on January 8 as a five-part series, and is set to outperform shows like Bridgerton and The Queen's Gambit— two of Netflix's most notable titles to date! While Bridgerton has a projected viewership of 63 million, The Queen's Gambit has officially been seen by 62 million households, becoming the most-viewed limited series on Netflix.

Even though these numbers are impressive, the first season of Lupin is already setting records! As Deadline mentions, the show is sitting in the number 1 spot in France as well as several other countries, including Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands. Lupin has also managed to make Netflix's Top 10 list in the U.S., marking the first time a French series has achieved this honour!

Lupin: here's what Netflix's new French hit is about

Lupin is a contemporary adaptation of a famous series of French novels by writer Maurice Leblanc. It tells the story of "Assane Diop", who seeks to avenge the death of his father after he was wrongfully accused of a crime. "Assane" decides to draw inspiration from "Arsène Lupin", a world-renowned criminal notorious for his thievery and skillful deception.

On Tuesday, the show's star, Omar Sy, took to Twitter to thank the show's fans after learning how well Lupin has performed in worldwide markets. "70 millions, that's insane!!" Sy tweeted. "So proud that Lupin is the first French Netflix Original series to be so successful internationally !"
