Since 1994, the most prominent musical talent, mainly from Europe, has been recognized at the MTV Europe Music Awards, known simply as the MTV EMAs. These awards, given year after year by the MTV channel, have become quite a popular celebration, in which, in recent years, the audience has been in charge of choosing the winners!

Since its creation in the 90s, the MTV EMAs have been held in a different European city each year, including places such as Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, Milan, Dublin, London, Liverpool, Bilbao, Seville or Glasgow.

The MTV Ema has 16 main categories, as well as 31 categories that are open to voting. Among the artists who have won awards in these awards are names such as Lady Gaga, One Direction, Ariana Grande, Oasis, The Killers, Halsey, Dua Lipa, The Black Eyed Peas, among many others. Some of the most notable categories are:

  • Artists and bands like Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Coldplay and Robbie Williams have been some of the most nominated in history. 
  • Despite awarding European music, artists from the United States have been the most awarded in the history of the awards, followed by those from the United Kingdom. 
  • It was since 2007 that viewers could start voting for their favorite artists too!
  • Spain was the first country to host the awards in two consecutive editions. 
  • The statuette is a globe with the western part, from which the MTV logo protrudes.
