Octavia Spencer stars as "Madam C.J. Walker" in Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker. The four-part series premieres on Netflix on March 20.

Madam C.J. Walker (1867-1919) was the first woman to become a self-made millionaire. Her inspiring story is the focus of the new Netflix series.

Netflix provides this description for Self Made:

"[It] brings the uplifting story of this cultural icon to the screen for the first time. Against all odds, Walker overcame post-slavery racial and gender biases, personal betrayals, and business rivalries to build a ground-breaking brand that revolutionized black haircare, as she simultaneously fought for social change."

In the series, Spencer stars as Walker, with Blair Underwood as her husband and Tiffany Haddish as her daughter.
