Will Helen McCrory Be In 'Peaky Blinders' Season 6?
Peaky Blinders is coming to an end after nine years and six critically acclaimed seasons. But, sadly, series star Helen McCrory passed away suddenly ahead of the final season. Here's what we know about how Peaky Blinders will go ahead after the loss of the wonderful actress who played "Polly."
We were all left heartbroken when Helen McCrory died suddenly early this year.
The English actress had privately been battling cancer and passed away on April 16 at the age of just 52. She left behind her husband, actor Damian Lewis, and their two children, as well as a legion of fans.
Helen McCrory: Is "Polly" in final Peaky Blinders season?
McCrory's best-known role was on Peaky Blinders as "Polly Gray," a role she'd played brilliantly since 2013. Sadly, her death came amid the shoot for the final season of the series, which is concluding with season 6.
Filming of the season got underway in January 2021 after COVID-19 delays. UK outlets, who reported on sightings from the set, say that McCrory was not spotted filming this season, which would make sense given the illness that took her life just a few months later.
Still, there hasn't yet been official word if "Polly" will have screen-time in season 6. The "Shelby" gang matriarch had broken away from her family at the end of season 5, and we don't know if scenes were filmed under special arrangements or if unused footage could come into play.
But we do know that the entire last season will be devoted to McCrory, according to star Cillian Murphy. "It's hard to think of the series without her," he told Men's Health. The outlet also suggested McCrory won't appear in the season.
Peaky Blinders says goodbye to Helen McCrory
Upon the actress's death, Murphy led the Peaky Blinders cast tributes to their friend, saying: "It was a privilege to have worked with this brilliant woman, to have shared so many laughs over the years.
"I will dearly miss my pal. My love and thoughts are with Damian and her family."
For now, McCrory will have commandingly played "Polly" for all 30 episodes of the first five seasons of Peaky Blinders. Season 6 wrapped filming in May, and Netflix says it will premiere in 2022.
Whether or not McCrory will have a final appearance on Peaky Blinders remains to be seen, but we're certain the series will send her off with the utmost respect. Rest in peace, Helen.
