Piers Morgan is officially not returning to Good Morning Britain. The news was announced by British broadcaster ITV on Tuesday, and comes immediately after a heated on-air discussion about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry caused Morgan to storm out.

Morgan called out by co-presenter for anti-Meghan tirade

Morgan had criticized Meghan and Harry's tell-all interview with Oprah on the previous morning's show, and came under fire for his comments— particularly in regarding judgment of Meghan's mental health. "I'm sorry, I don't believe a word she says," Morgan said of the Duchess of Sussex. "I wouldn’t believe her if she read me a weather report."

On Tuesday's show, Morgan's co-presenter, Alex Beresford, called him out for continuing his anti-Meghan tirade. "I think that we need to all take a step back," Beresford said. He proceeded to tell the show's host that Meghan is "entitled to cut you off if she wants to," and commented on the fact that while she has not spoken out against him, "you continue to trash her."

Morgan storms off Good Morning Britain set during discussion

Morgan has shared that he knew Meghan before she became part of the royal family, so Beresford's comments about his now non-existent relationship with the Duchess of Sussex clearly hit a nerve. "OK, I'm done with this," Morgan said, shocking viewers as he stormed off the Good Morning Britain set. "Sorry. See you later. Sorry, can't do this."

However, Morgan's outburst didn't stop Beresford from continuing Tuesday's show, as his co-presenter called the host's vendetta against Meghan "absolutely diabolical behavior." Beresford then went on to say that Morgan "spouts off on a regular basis and we all have to sit there and listen -- 6:30 to 7 o'clock yesterday was incredibly hard to watch."

Later that day, it was announced that Morgan would be departing the program. "Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain," the statement read. "ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add."
