Elizabeth Debicki has talked about joining The Crown in its final two seasons to play Princess Diana! The actress was interviewed on Good Morning America on Thursday and shared how she feels about her upcoming role.

Debicki "incredibly excited" to portray Princess Diana

Debicki appeared on GMA opposite Kenneth Branagh to promote their new movie Tenet. During the interview, she was asked about her thoughts on portraying Princess Diana. "When [creator] Peter Morgan asked me to do it, I was quite overwhelmed," Debicki said. "But I’ve had a little bit of time to process it now, and I think that I’m actually just incredibly excited to do it."

She also talked about why portraying the iconic royal is a unique challenge! "And she’s such an important figure," Debicki explained. "She was such a remarkable human being, and so the idea of stepping into it is daunting but very exciting." Debicki will take over the role from Emma Corrin, who plays the princess in season 4!

Debicki joins new cast for The Crown's last seasons

Debicki will be playing Princess Diana in seasons 5 and 6 of The Crown, and she isn't the only newcomer to the cast! As Entertainment Tonight mentions, Imelda Staunton will take over the role of Queen Elizabeth from Olivia Colman, and Lesly Manville will play Princess Margaret, currently played by Helena Bonham Carter. Jonathan Pryce is also stepping into the role of Prince Philip after Tobias Menzies.

Season 4 of The Crown— which is set to be released on Netflix later this year— will follow Diana's rise in the ranks within the royal family. Debicki also made a statement to The Wrap last month about playing the Princess of Wales. "Princess Diana’s spirit, her words and her actions live in the hearts of so many," she shared.

"It is my true privilege and honour to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from Episode One." It sounds like Debicki is certainly looking forward to her role, and we're excited to see how she channels the iconic princess!
