The now sixty-three-year-old Danish-American has been working as an actor for more than three decades. He started out playing supporting roles in numerous films, including Portrait of a Lady, Crimson Tide, A Perfect Murder and Psycho. He became an international star however when he was cast as "Aragorn" in Peter Jackson’s adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's epic novels. He played "Aragorn" in all three films.
Viggo Mortensen in 2021: "Aragorn" looks great!
After spending three years in New Zealand whilst filming The Lord of the Rings, Viggo Mortensen took on different roles in various films such as Hidalgo and A History of Violence. His performance in Eastern Promises earned him a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, and an Academy Award nomination. He was nominated for an Academy Award for the second time in 2017 for playing the lead in the very successful independent film Captain Fantastic.
Besides working as an actor, Viggo is also a keen music and literature enthusiast and a passionate horseman. When filming for The Lord of the Rings trilogy finished, he decided to buy "his" film horse Uraeus, as they had become quite a team! He also adopted the horse he rode in the film Hidalgo once production was over.
In 2018, he starred in the Oscar-winning movie Green Book and was again nominated for an Academy Award as Best Actor. Then in 2020, Viggo Mortensen made his debut as a director and screenwriter with the drama Falling, in which he also stars alongside Lance Henriksen, Laura Linney and David Cronenberg.
Viggo has four films lined up which are set to be released in 2022! We can't wait to see more of the talented actor on screen.
