The Waltons will be back on the air in 2021 — with a whole new cast.
The classic '70s series is making a comeback with a new TV movie titled The Waltons: Homecoming. It will air on The CW to mark the 50th anniversary of the original 1971 Waltons TV movie, which came the year before the CBS series premiered.

For fans of the classic TV show, there will be a familiar voice in the new movie. The Waltons star Richard Thomas will narrate the 2021 film after playing "John Boy" on the original series.
This week, Deadline also confirmed the full cast of 13 stars. Actor Ben Lawson will play "John Walton Sr." He's an Australian TV star who also had a main role in the 2021 Netflix series Firefly Lane.
Bellamy Young will play family matriarch "Olivia." The American star is known for roles on Scandal and Prodigal Son. Meanwhile, This Is Us actor Logan Shroyer will take over as "John Boy" in the new film. (Pictures below.)

The Waltons: Homecoming will tell a story of the "Walton" family set at Christmas in 1933. "John Sr." is away but surprises his family with news he'll be returning home for the holiday.
"But when a storm threatens his arrival on Christmas Eve, and 'John Sr.' is nowhere to be found, 'Olivia' sends 'John Boy' out into the night to find his daddy," The CW writes.
The cast will also feature Marcelle Le Blanc as "Mary Ellen Walton," Christian Finlayson as "Jason Walton," Tatum Matthews as "Erin Walton," Samuel Goergen as "Jim Bob Walton," and Callaway Corrick as "Elizabeth Walton."
Rounding out the cast are Rebecca Koon as "Grandma Walton," Alpha Trivette as "Grandpa Walton," Marilyn McCoo as "Sister Harriet," and Billy Davis Jr. as "Brother William."
The original Waltons TV series was a huge hit in the 1970s and aired for nine season until 1981. The new film will mark the 50th anniversary of the December 1971 TV movie that preceded the series, called The Homecoming: A Christmas Story.
