Ruby Rose is putting the rumours to rest on her Batwoman exit.

Rose shocked Batwoman fans in May 2020 when she walked away from the show's title role after the first season. The actress released a statement at the time, but no firm reason for her departure was given. But Rose has now spoken out on the exit.

Why Ruby Rose quit Batwoman

Rose revealed that it was a combination of factors that led to her Batwoman decision. Speaking to EW, she clarified that stress, a back injury—which required surgery—and an introspective quarantine experience motivated the exit.

"Being the lead of a superhero show is tough," she joked. "But I think, in that particular instance, it was a lot more difficult because I was still recovering from my surgery. I had my surgery and then 10 days later I went to work, which maybe wasn't the best idea."

Rose said that playing a lead on any show is "taxing," but that she is "proud" of what Batwoman accomplished. "I just think that it was also time for me to take a break to fully heal and then return," she added.

"It wasn't so much [the injury], especially because after we wrapped up we didn't get to finish the real finale because of COVID," she told EW. "You know, you have time in quarantine and sort of isolation to just think about a lot of different things and what you want to achieve in life and what you want to do."

Ruby Rose will watch Batwoman season 2 with Javicia Leslie

In the interview, Rose had only kind words for the Batwoman team and her experience on the show. She also has full faith in Javicia Leslie, who has taken over the "Batwoman" role — but as the new character "Ryan Wilder" — for season 2.

"I'm definitely going to watch the next season as well and see how it all comes together," Rose said. Batwoman season 2 carries on with much interest, as season 1 also concluded two episodes early due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The new season is expected to resume filming this month, meaning Batwoman's new-look second season could be coming soon.
