John Sykes, the renowned British guitarist celebrated for his work with legendary bands Whitesnake and Thin Lizzy, has passed away at the age of 65. A statement on his official website confirmed that Sykes "passed away after a tough battle against cancer."

Sykes began his career in 1980 with the heavy metal band Tygers of Pan Tang, contributing to two albums before joining Thin Lizzy in 1982. During his time with the band, he played on their 1983 album 'Thunder and Lightning' and toured Europe alongside frontman Phil Lynott with a separate group, The Three Musketeers.

In 1984, Sykes joined Whitesnake at the invitation of frontman David Coverdale. Following his departure from the band, he formed Blue Murder, releasing two albums. Later, he spearheaded a touring version of Thin Lizzy after the band's dissolution following Lynott's death.

Sykes' legacy as an exceptional guitarist and musician continues to inspire generations. David Coverdale, founder of Whitesnake, paid tribute to Sykes on X, sharing photos from their time together and writing: "Just heard the shocking news of John's passing.
