Princess Lilibet is settling into life in the UK after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned in August, and a new birthday photo has added a fresh detail about the five-year-old. Shared for Prince Harry’s 42nd birthday earlier this month, the black-and-white image showed Lilibet holding a Polaroid camera as she photographed her father. Her face was covered with an emoji for privacy, but her long red hair and floral summer dress were visible as she carefully aimed the camera upward, while Harry stood still in a straw hat for the shot.
Princess Lilibet Takes Up Photography
The image suggests photography is becoming a real hobby for the young royal. It is not the first time she has been linked to the camera either. In January, Meghan shared a video of herself dancing with Harry during a 2016 throwback trend and credited the clip to their daughter. According to Hello Magazine, Lilibet is also said to be happy at her new school as she adjusts to her family’s move. The latest photo adds another glimpse of her daily life, this time through a creative pastime that already runs through the family.
Princess Kate Shares the Same Passion
Lilibet’s interest has a clear royal parallel in the Princess of Wales. Kate has long taken many of the official portraits of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, and photography remains one of her most personal interests. "I am very much an amateur photographer. I've sort of learned along the way, but during this time I've spent lots of time picking up my camera and taking photographs of the children because they are always around us when we are doing stuff together, which has been great," Kate told This Morning. Her connection to the arts also stretches beyond family snapshots through patronages including the National Portrait Gallery, the V&A and the Royal Photographic Society.
Prince Archie Has Also Learned Behind the Lens
Lilibet is not the only Sussex child with an interest in photography. Her older brother, Prince Archie, was also introduced to the craft at a young age. In 2023, Meghan shared that Archie had been learning from family friend and filmmaker Misan Harriman. That means both children have now shown signs of enjoying life behind the camera rather than only appearing in front of it. For a family that keeps many private moments out of public view, these small details offer a rare sense of how creativity is being encouraged at home.
Princess Kate and Lilibet Have Yet to Meet
Despite the shared hobby, it is still believed that Kate has never met her niece in person. After Lilibet’s birth in 2021, the Princess of Wales was asked if she had FaceTimed the baby. "No, I haven't. No," said Kate according to Hello Magazine. She then added: "I wish her all the very best. I can’t wait to meet her, because we haven’t yet… met her yet, so hopefully that will be soon." Lilibet later visited Britain during the Platinum Jubilee in 2022, but no private meeting with the Wales family was thought to have taken place.
