In July 2020, a tragedy occurred that deeply shocked fans of 'Glee': Naya Rivera (†33), who captured viewers’ hearts as "Santana Lopez," tragically died in a boating accident on Lake Piru in California.

The actress had hoped to spend a carefree summer day with her then four-year-old son, Josey, but the outing ended in a devastating nightmare.

On July 8, 2020, Naya rented a boat to enjoy a relaxing day on the water with Josey. After taking a swim in the lake, Naya managed to get her son back on board, but the current was too strong for her. Tragically, she was unable to reach safety. Her body was found five days later; she had drowned.

Ryan Dorsey (41), Naya's ex-husband from 2014 to 2018, spoke to 'People' magazine about the heartbreaking accident. His son, Josey, told him exactly what had transpired. "He said that the last thing she said was his name, and then she went under, and he didn’t see her anymore," Ryan shared. "It just rocks my world that he had to witness her last moments."

Little Josey desperately tried to save his mother. In an interview with 'People', Ryan Dorsey revealed that his son is still grappling with feelings of guilt. "Something he’s said over and over is that he was trying to find a life raft, and there was a rope, but there was a big spider on the rope, and he was too scared to throw it," Ryan explained.

As a father, Ryan is deeply affected by his son's trauma and doesn't want him to carry unfounded guilt. "I keep reassuring him, ‘Buddy, that rope wasn’t going to be long enough.'"
