Alicia Keys was born on January 25th, 1981, in Hell's Kitchen, New York. She has had an incredible career in the music industry and continues to top the charts even today.
According to Keys she was frequently misinterpreted by the media and was called "a boy", "gay" and "hard" for having braids in her hair and wearing baggy jeans. She said this tough exterior that she portrayed acted like armor because after having lived in the streets of New York she felt uncomfortable feminizing herself as this would commonly attract unwanted attention from men.
