• Amy Winehouse was a famous music artist
  • She passed far too soon
  • Take a look back at her career highlights

Fans all over the world were deeply saddened on July 23rd, 2011 after Amy Winehouse's death was announced. The English singer and songwriter passed away at her home in Camden, London, when she was 27 years old due to alcohol intoxication after facing several depressive episodes.

It's been almost a decade without her and that's why we decided to praise her by taking a look back at some of her major achievements.

Young age, big talent!

Amy Winehouse was born on September 14th, 1983. She began her professional career as a musician in the 90's and started to write music when she was only 15 years old. Two years later, at the age of 17, she became the female featured vocalist with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra in the UK.

Mainly influenced by jazz music, Amy released her first album Frank in 2003, which was ranked at the top of the UK album chart in 2004. One of the most successful songs from the album is still "Stronger Than Me," for which Amy won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary song in 2004.

First single released: Rehab

In 2006 she released her second album Back to Black; which went to number one on the UK Albums Chart for two weeks in a row. The first single released from it was "Rehab," an autobiographical song where Amy addressed her refusal to enter a rehabilitation clinic after dealing with drug addiction and alcohol consumption. The song earned her 4 Grammy awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

After releasing Back to Black and before her death, Amy Winehouse performed at several music festivals where she was reported to be distracted and tired while being on stage. Her last shows were clear signs of her struggle with personal situations and relationships, which eventually played a key role within her causes of death.

A music legend who died too young

Amy was included in the 27 Club, a list of artists and musicians who died at the same age as her, like Kurt Cobain, former Nirvana singer, and Jim Morrison, leader of The Doors, among others. Some might argue that Amy passed away just when she was reaching one of the highest peaks of her career... and it is probably true; although we believe she still had a lot more to offer, she is considered one of the most talented voices of all time.
