In a time where digital streaming can get hazy, Taylor Swift's content was shadow banned. Other artists, such as Ariana Grande, Camila Cabello and Rihanna, were also affected. At the time, Universal Music Group said that TikTok only wanted to pay its artists "a fraction of the rate that similarly situated major social platforms pay."

Fans were definitely on board at the time. "Ultimately TikTok is trying to build a music-based business, without paying fair value for the music," Universal Music Group said via statement.
