As his family told the press, Chadwick had received the diagnosis back in 2016. He fought cancer for four years, but kept his disease a secret. The family posted an emotional statement on Twitter: "It was the great honor of his career to bring 'King T’Challa' to life in Black Panther. Indeed, Chadwick's stamina deserves great respect. According to the tweet, he had "gotten through everything" as a "true fighter" and, despite many operations and chemotherapy, continued filming.
