On Aug. 28, the actor's tragic death at the age of 43 was revealed on his official Twitter page. In just a few short days, the tweet has soared to new heights in social media history, claiming the title of most-liked tweet of all time.

Boseman's tweet surpassed the record within its first 24 hours, and its numbers only continue to climb. At the time of this writing, the tweet nears 7 million likes, as it appears primed to possibly double the previous record. (Former U.S. President Barack Obama is in possession of the second and third most-liked tweets, at 4.3 and 4 million.)

Twitter's official page marked the unique moment on the platform on Aug. 29. "Most liked Tweet ever. A tribute fit for a King," they wrote, along with the hashtag #WakandaForever.

In Boseman's Twitter farewell, it was revealed he'd quietly been battling colon cancer, which had progressed to a stage IV diagnosis. The Black Panther star had even continued to act and completed multiple recent films "during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy," the announcement said.

Icons of the sports and entertainment world have since paid tribute to the beloved actor, whose kindness and good deeds off-screen have been praised unanimously. Boseman was 43.
