Charlie Sheen has opened up about his path to sobriety with former late-night host Jay Leno who has known him for almost 40 years. The actor appeared on Leno's show Jay Leno's Garage on CNBC and had a great conversation with Jay.

Charlie Sheen, 54, said "About a year-and-a-half ago, it just hit me that I knew it was time to make a change," He stated he has not had a drop of alcohol since making this decision. He also said it wasn't too much of a challenge to begin his journey to total sobriety: "And, you know, it didn’t require some crazy rehab stint or a shootout with the cops. It didn’t require anything super dramatic and crazy and front-page news."

Charlie Sheen: Health comes first

Sheen said recently he has put his health first. "I really focus on my health, my family and work will come next. I’m excited to be excited again." He said that the decision was an epiphany moment and he just knew he had to make a change to his lifestyle. He also stated that if his children ever want to talk about something dangerous or unhealthy then he has told them to come to him because he has "all the knowledge".

He said "I don’t come at them with judgment or anything but love. My experiences can prevent them from going down a similar road and so the whole journey wasn’t a complete waste of time. I have all the data."
