They were some of the most popular artists of the century, but they weren't just known for their amazing talents... Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin and so many others all died at the age of 27! Check out the gallery to find out what other artists belonged to "Club 27"...

Many of the celebrities in this picture gallery did not manage to overcome their addiction. Life as a successful musician or actor often brings with it a darker side. Amy Winehouse was only 27 years old when she died from alcohol poisoning in London on July 23rd, 2011. Her alcohol blood level was off the charts at the time of her death!

Winehouse had been an alcoholic for a long time and also had struggled with drugs, which is why she attended rehab a couple of times. In the end, she succumbed to her substance abuse problems.

Jimi Hendrix is still considered one of the best guitar players of all time. With his alcohol and drug escapades, he made the headlines over and over again. The brilliant musician died in London on 18 September 1970.

On the day of his death, Hendrix had consumed alcohol as well as ingested sleeping pills - he eventually aspirated and choked on his vomit. Janis Joplin died only a few weeks after Jimi Hendrix.

She was found dead in her motel in Los Angeles on October 4, 1970 with a heroin overdose. The musician is considered to have one of the greatest voices of all time...!
