Actress Christy Carlson Romano, who rose to fame on Disney shows such as 'Even Stevens' and 'Kim Possible,' has opened up about a positive cancer screening result in an emotional Instagram video. Alongside her husband, Brendan Rooney, she decided to undergo testing due to a history of cancer in her family. While Rooney’s results came back clear, Romano received distressing news. On Instagram, she shared how she learned about the diagnosis in the middle of filming — a moment that abruptly changed her life and her outlook on the future.

In the video, the 'Even Stevens' actress explains that she and her husband underwent preventive testing. “My husband's [results] came back completely negative,” she says, pausing before continuing. “Mine did not come back negative. What that means is I may have stageable cancer.”

She goes on to reveal that the next step is a PET scan to assess the situation more precisely. Romano also explains that she is currently dealing with her insurance company to ensure the examination is covered — an additional burden during an already stressful time.

Fight For PET Scan and Insurance Challenges

Romano shares that she had been looking forward to returning to set when the news reached her. “I kind of was in disbelief about it because I was filming, and so happy to be back on set, I didn’t really want to think about it much until I got home and then I thought, ‘Oh, we’ll just do the PET scan.” she explains.

Instead of focusing fully on her work, she now has to coordinate medical appointments while simultaneously navigating insurance issues. The actress highlights how frustrating it can be to fight for coverage during a serious health scare — a struggle many patients can unfortunately relate to.

Memory of James Van Der Beek Intensifies Her Fear

Romano becomes particularly emotional when speaking about 'Dawson’s Creek' star James Van Der Beek, whose battle with cancer deeply affected her. In the video, she reflects on their connection in Texas.

“I live in Austin and I was able to meet James Van Der Beek a bunch. His family’s amazing. He’s a pillar of our community in Texas,” she says.

The experience, she explains, was a stark reminder of how quickly life can change and how crucial preventive care can be.

Serious Eye Injury At Her husband’s Birthday Party

Romano also recalls a traumatic incident from just over a year ago. During her husband’s birthday celebration, she suffered a serious eye injury when another guest accidentally discharged a party popper, and a fragment became lodged behind her eye.

Reflecting on the ordeal, she wrote on Instagram: “With everything that happened, all I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive”. She continued, “I love my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much. I saw my life flash before my eyes and I'm telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can.”
