In 2018 nobody imagined that a performance by Cardi B as a special guest on Saturday Night Live would lead to a pregnancy announcement! During the broadcast, the cameras focused on the upper part of her body, but everyone's jaws dropped as the shot dropped, zooming in on her belly revealing a small bump. In July of that year her baby Kulture was born.

In March 2021 Emily Ratajkowski welcomed her son Sylvester Apollo and the way she announced her pregnancy was anything but usual. In 2020, the model teamed up with 'Vogue' and Lena Dunham ('Girls'), to publish a project titled "Who Will You Be?" Narrated by Emily herself, it announced her pregnancy under the direction of Dunham, who at one point told Vogue: "I wanted to see Emily doing mundane things and focus more on her daily life than on her belly, and more on her inner monologue than on the way the world reacts to a newly pregnant mom."

In December 2022, the singer and Nickelodeon star left the audience speechless on Saturday Night Live when announcing her pregnancy live. Palmer was in charge of giving the opening monologue on the program. In this she said: "I’m especially glad to be here because there’s some rumors going around. People have been in my comments saying, ‘Keke’s having a baby, Keke’s pregnant,’ and I wanna set the record straight: I am!"

Rihanna may have surprised everyone this weekend during the Super Bowl halftime show... but, really, the singer of "Distrubia" had already surprised her followers when she announced her first pregnancy. In January 2022, after months of speculation, "RiRi" and her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky, simply hung out on the streets of the Big Apple, with the singer sporting an obvious baby bump. According to 'Essence', the musical couple decided to do it as an intentional paparazzi photo strategy.

"I hunkered down and baked a lot of bread but I just wanna say I might have baked too much bread or eaten too much bread — you tell me," was comedian Jenny Slate's response during an appearance on 'Late Night' with Seth Meyers, after the host asked her how she had coped with the peak of the pandemic in 2020. What fans did not imagine is that Slate, immediately afterwards, showed her small pregnancy bump adding: "Um, how have the exact last nine months been? They've been real pregnant for me!" In February 2021 her daughter Ida was born.

Ellen DeGeneres is known for going the extra mile when it comes to interviewing other celebrities on her show. An episode of 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' in 2008, with Mariah Carey as a guest, made that very clear. In it, the hostess insisted the singer drink some champagne, in an attempt to force a pregnancy announcement. DeGeneres offered a drink to Carey, who was clearly taken aback. Sadly, things ended badly, as Mariah was forced to drink the drink, telling Ellen, "I can't believe you did this to me Ellen. ...This is peer pressure." Unfortunately, things were even worse as, within a few weeks, Mariah suffered a miscarriage. Recently, the interview went viral on social media with users arguing that Ellen handled things very badly and that it is a clear case of harassment.

Kelly Rowland

The former Destiny's Child member joins our list of celebrities whose pregnancy announcements have been unexpected. Rowland revealed the good news in 2020 by posing pregnant for the cover of the magazine Women's Health. During the interview for said publication, Kelly commented that she and her husband, celebrity manager Tim Weatherspoon, had discussed the possibility of expanding their family prior to the COVID-19 outbreak. The next thing that happened was that she got pregnant! Little Noah was born the following year, becoming the younger brother of the adorable Titan.

You have to admit something: no one could do it better than Katy Perry. In 2020, the singer and her husband, actor Orlando Bloom, welcomed their daughter Daisy. But how did their fans find out they were going to become parents? In March of that year Katy released a music video called "Never Worn White". In the clip, the singer is seen placing her hands on a belly that would seem pregnant. Following the release, Perry confirmed the beautiful news on social media.

Last but not least, "Queen Bey" HAD to be on the list. Around 2011 the singer of "If I Were A Boy" performed at the MTV Video Music Awards. At the beginning of her performance she said: "I want you to feel the love that’s growing inside of me." While the hint was pretty obvious, things didn't become clear until the end of her performance, when she dropped the microphone and opened her jacket, exposing her pregnant belly. In January 2012, she and her husband, rapper Jay-Z, welcomed little Blue Ivy Carter, who is now the older sister of Sir and Rumi, born in 2017.

The 57th Super Bowl took place in Glendale, Arizona in 2023. In addition to the exciting matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs (winners), the audience was delighted by Rihanna's performance during the halftime show.

RiRi not only surprised fans by performing some of her most popular songs... but also by revealing a baby bump that was eventually confirmed by her reps.

Celebrities and their unexpected pregnancies

Rihanna's pregnancy announcement became one of the most surprising in Hollywood, although this is not the first time that a celebrity has surprised her fans by revealing that they will be mothers soon.
