Jenna was born in Seoul, South Korea and was adopted at 3-months old by a family from New York. She started her career at the age of 3 starring in children's shows like Sesame Street.
Jenna enjoyed taking part in theater productions throughout elementary and high school and in 1996 landed a role on Broadway in the musical The King and I. In 2009 she landed her breakout role of "Tina Cohen-Chang" on Glee.
Jenna Ushkowitz's Time on Glee
Jenna starred in 106 episodes of Glee as "Tina Cohen-Chang" from 2009-2015. The director, Ryan Murphy, choose Jenna because he wanted actors who could relate to the rush of theater roles and her extensive time on Broadway gave her the experience he was looking for.
Her character "Tina" is known for solos such as "True Colors", "Gangnam Style", and "I Kissed a Girl". Following the 5th season of Glee, Jenna's role was reduced when "Tina" graduated high school and began studying at Brown University.
Jenna Ushkowitz as a Producer
While on Glee, Jenna continued to star in Broadway musicals like Hair and Hello Again and in 2015 she became the executive producer for the documentary Twinsters. She went on co-produce a podcast series with Will Malnati in 2016 and co-produced her first Broadway show in 2017 titled Once on This Island, for which she won her first Tony award in 2018.
More recently Jenna has co-produced the Broadway show Be More Chill and is very active in raising awareness for environmental issues such as overfishing and ocean conservation.
