Divorce issues

Nearly five months have passed since Jennifer Lopez initiated divorce proceedings from Ben Affleck, yet the process is far from over. Initial hopes for an amicable separation have been dashed, as sources reveal that "nothing has been resolved" and tensions are mounting behind the scenes.

Lopez's filing in August at the Los Angeles Superior Court, which marked April 26 as their official separation date, seemed straightforward at first. She even waived spousal support, seeking the same from Affleck. However, unresolved issues have stalled progress, leaving the divorce in limbo.

A significant stumbling block in Lopez and Affleck's divorce is the division of their assets. The couple did not sign a prenuptial agreement when they married over two years ago, complicating matters.

"It's been six months since she filed and nothing has been resolved, it doesn't seem like they're anywhere close to finalizing the divorce," an insider told 'InTouch Weekly'.

"They both said they wanted to do it amicably and have even talked a good game about wanting to consciously uncouple, but that plan seems to be out the window because they can't agree on how to divide things up, which of course is affecting things."

As a result, disagreements over asset division have led to arguments, with Affleck reportedly choosing to distance himself from Lopez. According to insiders, Lopez has been urging Affleck to spend more time with her, emphasizing the importance of establishing a stable blended family dynamic post-divorce. However, Affleck's reluctance to engage has only heightened the tension.

Despite the ongoing legal battle, Lopez and Affleck have managed to maintain a cordial public front. Recently, they reunited to watch their children perform in a school play in Los Angeles.

A source told 'InTouch 'that Lopez is "telling him he should be spending more time with her because the blended family situation is so new, and it's vital that they all get off to a good start following the divorce, and just establish a pattern, and then he has Jen pushing him to spend time with her and their kids together."

A previous source claimed that Lopez "thinks Ben ought to just give in to all her demands" and that "it infuriates her that he's trying to come out of this on top when he's the one that left her high and dry."

"She feels like the least he could do is be a gentleman in their divorce," the insider shared. "But of course, Ben doesn't see it that way, he thinks he's been more than fair, and J. Lo is the one purposely dragging this on and nitpicking over little details."

The event showcased a rare moment of unity, with Affleck seen congratulating the children and Lopez presenting her son with a bouquet of flowers. Observers noted the former couple's friendly interaction, suggesting that while their divorce proceedings are fraught with challenges, they remain committed to co-parenting their children amicably.

Part of what is keeping the estranged spouses in close proximity is their children. The insider revealed that their kids—Affleck's younger children Seraphina, and Samuel and Lopez's twins Emme and Max—"attend the same school so they’re bound to spend time together."

That makes sense to us.

"Ben and Jennifer remain amicable whenever they do see each other," the source concluded. "They’re still close with each other’s children, and even though they don’t have a co-parenting type of relationship, they still feel like a blended family in a lot of ways."

As such, Affleck and Lopez try their best to keep their relationship as amicable as possible, even though they aren't required to co-parent. Affleck's oldest child, Violet, whom he also shares with Jennifer Garner, is currently in college, but has remained close with Lopez since the breakup.
