Joaquin Phoenix has talked about his late brother River only a couple of times in the past years. Now the 'Joker' star gave a rare interview and opened up like never before during Anderson Cooper's 60 Minutes.

After 27 years of River's death, Joaquin recalled how he felt media coverage of his brother's passing affected his and his family's mourning process. "During that time in which you're most vulnerable, there are helicopters flying over, there are people that are trying to sneak onto your land. Certainly, for me it felt like it impeded on the mourning process," he explained.

During his appearance on 60 Minutes, the Gladiator star also talked about the connection he feels with his late brother every time he makes a movie, "I think that we've all felt his presence and guidance in our lives in numerous ways," Joaquin said.

River Phoenix passed away in 1993  at the age of 23 due to drug overdose outside The Viper Room, in Hollywood. Joaquin, who was at the club with him that night, was only 19 at the time. "River was a really substantial actor and movie star and we didn't really know it," added the "Joker."
