Julia Roberts: Through The Years With The Actress

Julia Roberts was born on October 28th, 1967 in Smyrna, Georgia. When Julia was relatively young, her parents ran an Acting school in downtown Decatur, Georgia that Martin Luther King Jr.'s kids attended on a regular basis! She grew up in a family obsessed with acting! Another famous actor in her family is her brother Eric Roberts who later reunited with her sister, after being estranged for over 30 years, back in 2004. After high school ended, Julia decided to study at Georgia State University before dropping out and moving to New York City to pursue an acting career!

Julia ended up having her first big screen role in the movie Satisfaction alongside Liam Neeson and Justine Bateman back in 1988. This was enough to get her a few different guest roles in a wide variety of shows including 'Miami Vice', 'Friends' and 'Law & Order'.

Her very first major success was in the independent film 'Mystic Pizza' (1988). She was also featured in the movie 'Steel Magnolias' (1989) where she played a young bride with diabetes. She was nominated for both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting actress for the role.

1990 was THE year for Julia Roberts! Her role as the above average hooker, with a heart of gold, in 'Pretty Woman' was quirky and romantic enough to propel her to the top almost overnight! She received an Academy Award nomination as well as a Golden Globe as Best Actress. 'Pretty Woman' ended up having the highest ticket sales of all time for a romantic comedy!

After Pretty Woman, Roberts began starring in blockbuster after blockbuster including 'Flatliners' (1990), 'Sleeping With The Enemy' (1991), 'Hook' (1991) and 'My Best Friend's Wedding' (1997). This was definitely the peak of Julia's career! She will forever live on in the 90's!

In 2001, Roberts teamed up with the likes of George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon in the rag-tag heist comedy 'Ocean's Eleven'. She ended up starring in the film's 1st sequel in Ocean's Twelve in 2004, but sadly, due to script issues she didn't have a role in the film series' third installment, 'Ocean's Thirteen'. Not only was Julia Roberts starring in almost every blockbuster of the 90's and early 2000s, she was reported to be one of the highest-paid actresses according to 'The Hollywood Reporter' back in 2005.

Our romantic comedy queen starred in both 'Valentine's Day' and 'Eat Pray Love' in 2010. She also took on a new genre of film in 2012 when she starred in the fantasy adventure 'Snow White' remake 'Mirror Mirror'. Alongside her normal acting roles, she has also voice acted in movies like 'Smurfs: The Lost Village'. She also starred in the movie 'Ben Is Back' in 2018.

In 2017, Roberts starred alongside Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay in the popular dramedy Wonder.

In 2019, Julia Roberts starred as "Heidi Bergmann" in the Amazon Original hit series 'Homecoming'. Her first appearance in a TV series since a guest spot on 'Law & Order' in 1999. Most recently, you can see the actress in the series 'Gaslit', the 2022 film 'Ticket To Paradise' and the 2023 film 'Leave the World Behind'. She has a couple of movies in the production stage for the next year!

How's Julia's love life, you may ask? Well, over the years she has had relationships with very successful actors including Matt Damon, Kiefer Sutherland, Matthew Perry, Liam Neeson and Dylan McDermott. After a pretty rough time with relationships, she finally ended up settling down with cinematographer Daniel Moder who she met while filming on set for The Mexican. The two got married on July 4, 2002 in Taos, New Mexico. They currently have three beautiful children!
