Luke Bracey

By casting Luke Bracey as Charles Ingalls, Netflix opted for a stark visual contrast to Michael Landon. He is the face of the reboot. The Australian actor is by no means a newcomer to Hollywood and has been appearing on screen since 2009.

Michael Landon

Michael Landon took on the role of Charles Ingalls in 1974 and left his mark on the NBC series for nine years as the lead actor, writer, and director of numerous episodes. Before 'Little House on the Prairie', he had already gained years of television experience with the Western series 'Bonanza' and brought that expertise to the new production. His portrayal of Charles Ingalls became the epitome of the kind, down-to-earth family man, and he remained inextricably linked to the character until his death in 1991. The series made him one of the most recognizable TV fathers of his generation.

Luke Bracey

In the Netflix reboot, Australian actor Luke Bracey takes on the role of Charles Ingalls, stepping into some very big shoes. He rose to fame through the remake of 'Point Break' and a supporting role in “Elvis” before the series creators cast him as the lead character of the pioneer family. The casting marks a significant departure from the classic Landon image, as Bracey appears younger and has a more international flair than his predecessor. For many fans of the original series, he represents their first real encounter with the new version of the story.

Karen Grassle

Karen Grassle came to the series from the theater in 1974 and took on the role of Caroline Ingalls, the level-headed mother of the pioneer family. Her classical acting training lent the character a seriousness that counterbalanced the series’ often sentimental tone. After 'Little House on the Prairie' ended, she returned regularly to the stage and later chronicled her experiences in her autobiography, 'Bright Lights, Prairie Dust.' For an entire decade, she remained the face of the literary mother figure on American television.

Crosby Fitzgerald

In the reboot, the role of Caroline Ingalls goes to Crosby Fitzgerald, a young actress who has primarily appeared in smaller television productions to date. By casting her, Netflix is opting for a significantly younger take on the mother figure than the original series presented. Little is known so far about how she’s preparing for the role, but fans have high expectations for this new take on the pioneer woman. Her casting is considered one of the most talked-about aspects of the reboot.

"Little House on the Prairie"—"Laura"

At just ten years old, Melissa Gilbert was cast as Laura Ingalls in 1974 and quickly became the emotional center of the series. Her portrayal of the bright young girl, who later becomes the story’s narrator herself, made her a child star overnight. After the series ended, she remained in the public eye, serving, among other roles, as president of the actors’ union SAG-AFTRA from 2001 to 2005. Her 2009 autobiography, 'Prairie Tale', offered deep insights behind the scenes of the cult series.

Alice Halsey

Alice Halsey takes on the role of Laura Ingalls in the reboot, facing the challenge of reinterpreting one of the most beloved children’s characters in television history. As a relatively unknown up-and-coming actress, she approaches the role without the baggage of a decades-long image. The producers are banking on the fact that a new generation of young viewers will find it easier to identify with a fresh face.

"Little House on the Prairie"

Starting in 1974, Melissa Sue Anderson played the eldest daughter, Mary Ingalls, and went through one of the most profound developmental changes in the entire series when her character went blind following an illness. This plot twist became one of the most talked-about storylines in American family television of the 1970s. After her role ended, Anderson gradually withdrew from Hollywood and now lives primarily in Canada. Occasional appearances on nostalgia shows continue to remind viewers of her iconic television character to this day.
