Parents and their children will always have their differences. This remains the case even when your mom is Madonna.

We know that because her daughter Lourdes Leon just made some rather unflattering remarks about her famous mother. The 25-year-old called Madonna a "control freak" who "controlled me my whole life," while talking to Interview Magazine this week.

Leon had been asked about rumours that Madonna doesn't fund the lives of her adult children — tuition and rent, for example. She confirmed this and explained:

"We don't get any handouts in my family. Obviously, I grew up with extreme privilege. There's no denying that.

"But I think my mom saw all these other kids of famous people, and she was like, 'My kids are not going to be like this.'

"Also, I feel like if your parents pay for things, then it gives them leverage over you," Leon said, before bluntly adding:

"My mom is such a control freak, and she has controlled me my whole life. I needed to be completely independent from her as soon as I graduated high school."

Despite the strong statement, Lourdes did have some positive things to say about her famous mother, noting that she, as a model, seeks advice from Madonna on life in the entertainment world.

Lourdes, whose father is Madonna's ex Carlos Leon, also said that her mother is "the hardest worker I've ever seen." But she added: "I didn't inherit that, unfortunately. I inherited her control issues, but not her work ethic."

Lourdes is one of Madonna's six children, all of whom united for her 63rd birthday party earlier this year.
