Matthew Perry, the actor best known for his role in 'Friends,' has passed away at the age of 54.
Matthew Perry cheated death many times
His passing was unexpected, despite the fact that the 'Friends' star had openly acknowledged narrowly avoiding death several times in recent years.
Almost exactly a year ago, Matthew Perry published his autobiography 'Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing', he began with the sentence: "I should be dead." Then, the actor mainly known as “Chandler” continues to narrate extremely dangerous situations in which he almost lost his life.
The 'Friends' star recounts when in 2018 he faced a dire situation when his colon ruptured from severe opioid abuse, leaving him with a mere two percent chance of survival. He managed to survive that incident, and in 2020, during abdominal surgery, his heart stopped for a full five minutes after he had taken some painkillers.
It was the culmination of his decades-long abuse of alcohol and medication.

What's especially tragic is that Matthew Perry didn't passively let his addiction consume his life; instead, he actively fought against it with every means available.
"I have spent upward of $7 million trying to get sober. I have been to six thousand AA meetings…I've been to rehab 15 times. I've been in a mental institution, gone to therapy twice a week for 30 years...," he wrote in his book.
Whether his demise was due to the abuse of alcohol, painkillers, or any other substance is still unclear.
Matthew Perry's cause of death is yet to be confirmed, and reports from 'TMZ' indicate no drugs were discovered. Perry was reportedly found unresponsive in his hot tub on October 28th.
