Mel Schilling has died at the age of 54 following a battle with colon cancer. The psychologist and dating coach, who became a well-known TV personality through her role as an expert on the Australian and British versions of 'Married at First Sight,' passed away on Tuesday surrounded by her loved ones.

Her husband, Gareth Brisbane, shared the news on Instagram, describing her as an “an incredible mum, role model, and soulmate.” The couple share a daughter, Madison, for whom Schilling remained a source of strength and positivity until the end.

Diagnosis and Progression of the Illness

In December 2023, Schilling revealed she had been diagnosed with colon cancer after a tumor “the size of a lemon” was discovered during an examination. Although the tumor was initially removed, she later learned in February 2024 that the cancer had spread to her lungs.

She underwent 16 rounds of chemotherapy, at times while continuing to film the show. A clinical trial later offered hope, but over Christmas she experienced severe headaches and numbness. Further tests revealed metastases in her brain, and treatment options were eventually exhausted.

Final Moments and Family Tribute

In an emotional statement, Brisbane said his wife passed away peacefully, surrounded by love. In her final moments, despite being barely able to speak, she called him over and shared a message for him and their daughter Maddie—one he said would stay with him forever.

He also reflected on her resilience, saying that throughout two years of intensive treatment, Schilling “never complained” and continued to show courage, grace, compassion, and empathy—while remaining dedicated to her work.

Career and Legacy

Schilling joined the Australian edition of 'Married at First Sight 'in 2019 and quickly became a central figure on the show. She later appeared in the UK version as well, earning a loyal following.

Earlier this year, she announced her departure after 12 seasons to focus on her health and family, saying she was leaving “not with sadness, but with a deep sense of gratitud.”

Her passing marks the loss of a beloved television personality whose warmth, honesty, and resilience left a lasting impression on colleagues and viewers alike.
