But music always kept him alive. He formed the group "Miami Latin Boys," which gained popularity in Miami in the early 1970s. At one of the many private parties where the group performed, Emilio met the love of his life, Gloria.

During that time, Gloria María Milagrosa Fajardo García was studying psychology at the University of Miami, but she also sang with other Latino musicians. After seeing her perform, Emilio couldn't take his eyes off her.
