Naya Rivera's sister, Nickayla, has stepped up in her auntie duties to help take care of her nephew, Josey. Naya tragically died on July 8, 2020, at age 33 due to a case of accidental drowning in California.

Nickayla has since spoken on "the darkest time of [her] life"...

Naya Rivera's Sister Is "Showing Up" For Nephew Josey

Naya and her sister, Nickayla Rivera were seven years apart in age, but had a bond that was "unbreakable", according to Nickayla. A source recently told ET Online that Nickayla and Naya's ex-husband, Ryan Dorsey, have moved in together to help raise Josey.

In order to help Josey adapt to a life without his lovely mother, Nickayla stepped in and is working as a team with Ryan to assist in raising Josey. The source further explained to ET Online:

"Since the devastating loss of Naya, Ryan’s role in parenting has of course been amped up. He’s the primary caregiver, but has been relying very heavily on Nickayla. He would not be able to do this without her help and involvement.”

Although many social media commenters believe that Nickayla and Ryan are somehow romantically involved, the source has stated that there is, in fact, nothing romantic between the two. The move-in took place as a way to help Josey's life more stable, and to give him "the best childhood possible".

As Nickayla's received backlash from Naya's fans, she has since released the following message on her Instagram Story,

"In the darkest time of my life, the only thing that is important is my friends & family. Showing up for my nephew even though I can't show up for myself. Im not concerned with the ways things look because no one can see each agonizing moment we all endure."

"What matters most I've learned, is to show compassion, not to judge others and never take a moment for granted. I hope you all can do the same."

Rest in peace, Naya.
