'Open Season' Star Peter Fonda's Sad Cause Of Death

Peter Fonda was born on February 23, 1940, in New York City. He was Henry Fonda's son, the younger brother of actress Jane Fonda, and Bridget Fonda's father.

The star had a remarkable movie career! His film debut took place in the 1963 movie 'Tammy and the Doctor', which was followed by 'Easy Rider', 'Open Season', 'Ulee's Gold', '3:10 to Yuma' and 'Boundaries', just to mention some of his most notable appearances.

In 1969, Peter Fonda was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for his work on 'Easy Rider'.

In 1997, he once again got an Oscar nomination, this time for Best Actor for his appearance on 'Ulee's Gold'. His performance in the latter earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama.

As for television, the star appeared in episodes of multiple series including 'Californication', 'CSI: NY' and 'Hawaii Five-0'.

Peter Fonda was also a regular guest in talk shows, such as 'The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson', 'Late Night with Conan O'Brien' and 'Late Show With David Letterman', among others.

Peter Fonda was not only a talented actor, but also a successful director. He took over the directorial work in the films ' The Hired Hand' (1971), 'Idaho Transfer' (1973), and 'Wanda Nevada' (1979).

When it comes to his personal life, Peter Fonda was married three time.

His first wife was Susan Brewer, from 1961 to 1974. Together, they welcomed daughter Bridget and son Justin.

In 1975 Fonda married Portia Rebecca Crockett, but they divorced in 2011.

Fonda's third wife was Margaret DeVogelaere (picture). They remained married from 2011 to 2019, when he died. 

Peter Fonda and his family always had a great relationship. He, for instance, directed his father, Henry Fonda, in his 1979 film 'Wanda Nevada'.

When Peter died, sister Jane Fonda told 'Deadline': "I am very sad. He was my sweet-hearted baby brother. The talker of the family. I have had beautiful alone time with him these last days. He went out laughing."

The star passed from respiratory failure, caused by a lung cancer diagnosis. The 'Open Season' actor was cremated at California's Westwood Memorial Park and his ashes were scattered.
