It has been almost 45 years since the tragic news of Elvis Presley's (†42) death hit the media in 1977. The King of Rock'N'Roll still lives on in his music today. In an older interview, his ex-wife Priscilla Presley (77) talked about how she found out about Elvis' death at the time.
Priscilla Presley: THIS is how she found out about Elvis' death
Priscilla Presley found out about the sad news from Elvis' manager Joe Esposito (†78), she explained in an interview with ET. She was out with her sister when her father told her that Esposito needed to speak to her, her first thought was about her daughter.
She drove home immediately and, in her panic, missed every red light. When she heard the phone ring, she could hardly turn the keys.
"It was so devastating that I just went to my room and tried to contemplate how this happened, and what happened, and just stayed there until they sent a plane for me," reveals Priscilla Presley.
Elvis' manager Joe Esposito sent her a jet so she could fly to Elvis in Memphis, Tennessee as soon as possible. When she arrived at the property, according to the interview, Priscilla can still remember all the people exactly, especially Elvis' father, who collapsed from the grief and cried loudly.
Elvis Presley: His daughter learned of his death before Priscilla
Priscilla Presley also revealed that her daughter Lisa Marie Presley (54) learned of Elvis' death before her. However, she was still so young that she didn't really understand what that really meant.
Elvis and Priscilla Presley were married for six years before divorcing in 1973. Lisa Marie Presley is their only child together. Elvis Presley died in 1977 at the age of 42.
